Week 5, Term 2
Last week room 27 went to science friction and we did heaps of experiments. We had to make a car out of connector bits in groups of 4 or 5. We weren't allowed to push the car, we had a balloon and we had to cello tape the balloon to the car and one person in the group had to blow up the balloon and the air in the balloon pushed the car to make it go.
On Wednesday and Thursday we had two new girls starting in our class and their names are Abbie and Kitty. Abbie comes from Ireland and Kitty comes from England. They have wonderful accents.
On Wednesday Room 27 did thinking hats about Red Rocks. First we had to write the information on it about Red Rocks then we coloured it in. We worked in partners. Then we cut it out and each group did different ones.
This term St Albans school started having milk. We have it at 11:30. One person from each class goes and gets it. Theres a big fridge in the oak leaf cafe. We have to drink it dry and suck the straw so all the milk is out. Then we have to fold it in a special way and put it in a blue bin. Not everyone has to drink the milk.

Chantal was inspired by this week's snow
Winter
Bone-chilling like an
ice ring
Morning is colder
than anything
Rain, hail, sleet, snow
What comes next?
I don't know
Maybe cloud or maybe sun
or maybe snow
all over again.

Amazing writing
Check out this fabulous poem by our Sam!
I love the way it creates a picture in my mind when I read it!

Morning Meadows
The sky is dark and
dew has been set.
The calves and their mothers are
sleeping.
The trees are not swaying because
there is no
breeze.
The buttercups rise early in the
morning,
spreading their buttery, glistening
petals
creating a
colourful morning scene.
The tall grass
blanketing the
farm animals in
the morning meadows.

WEEK 2 TERM 2
Highlights this week
Dream houses for maths
We designed dream houses. What we did was we made a plan of our dream homes but the boring part was we had to work out the area and see how many metres there were in the homes.
Cross Country
So the cross country came and went man we were tired after the race.
Arts Interchange
It's Friday so it's arts interchange so there were some awesome things like percussion, dance and maori performing arts. Here's some photos of percussion class.
National anthem in sign language
We are learning the National Anthem in sign language so if you know someone in Room 27 ask them how to do it.
We've got the new and awesome Miss Falkner.
by Riley Chisnall and Lavender Turner.

Week 1, Term 2
Our highlights:
* For our ignition for our term's inquiry about forces, we did a competition to see which group could pull Heather's truck over a 10 metre track. We had to see who could be fastest. We were! For our reward, we got to have a tug of war!
* Sports trials. Some of us got into Winter sports teams.
* Rachael King visited. We are reading her book 'Red Rocks'. We are loving it!
* Having a great new teacher
* Poetry: We wrote 'I asked' poems, which use nouns, verbs and adjectives.
* 'All about us'. We made little versions of ourselves, with symbols and colours to represent who we are.
* Going to the library.
* Fitness. We are attempting to run the length of NZ, from Kaitaia to Bluff!
* 'Our favourite books'. We did a mini-study on our favourite books and displayed them on the wall to give recommendations to our classmates on what to read!
This week we have been getting to know each other, and Miss Falkner is getting to know us and how we learn. We are learning that everyone has a different high standard, and to always aim for our own high standard. Check back here next week to see what we've been up to! Next week the blog will be written by 2 students from Room 27.
